About Me
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), with a Master’s Degree in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology from Naropa University. Many experiences and influences impact the way that I practice therapy. Before I became a therapist I worked in the world of recreation for people with disabilities, through both overnight camps and daycamps. I came to love interacting with people and families and eventually decided I wanted to expand my care for others through therapy. Initially I built on my recreational experience and worked with young children as a play therapist, learning about family systems, human development, and the nervous system. I still love building on that background with my adult clients.
Becoming a parent in 2014 inherently changed the way I view myself and the work I do. I found that I absolutely loved working parents with children of all ages, especially post-partum and newly pregnant mothers- but also that I loved talking to adults going through all types of transitions and life changes. I love going deep and talking about dreams, values systems, and nerding out about the nervous system and emotional wellness.
In 2018, eager to strengthen my skill set, I trained in EMDR (eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing), a trauma-informed therapy process. I absolutely fell in love with it and was changed as a therapist and became certified in 2022. EMDR is built on the Adaptive Information Processing model, which basically means that our brains are always working toward health, but painful or overwhelming experiences can impact our ability to process information and thrive. This fits deeply with how I feel about all of my clients: we are all doing the very best we can, all inherently valuable, deserving, loveable people, and sometimes experiences can get in the way of our believing that truth. I love helping uncover clients inner truths and helping them feel that they understand themselves better and have authentic hope for the future.
I primarily approach therapy from a lens of deep care and respect, using mindfulness-based and trauma-informed tools. My job is to help clients both notice and accept all aspects of themselves including body sensations, emotions, and thoughts through mindfulness; and to recognize that many of the struggles they face developed as originally adaptive responses to stress or upsetting experiences. I believe that through willingness to offer yourself non-judgmental attention and self-compassion you can change difficult patterns in your life. I became a certified trauma sensitive yoga teacher in 2023 and I find that integrating body-based practices is very healing for clients as well.
I feel so grateful to be practicing as a therapist in Conifer since 2015. I expanded to telehealth during the shutdowns of 2020 and have been so excited to serve clients across Colorado using that modality. I specialize in women’s issues throughout the lifespan, including the perinatal and postpartum period, as well as depression, anxiety, and trauma-related struggles. I grew up in nearby Evergreen and love the mountain community and spending time outdoors appreciating the Colorado sunshine with my husband, two children, and our amazing dog. When I am not spending time with my family, I can usually be found trying to read as many books as I possibly can, or practicing yoga.
